UN Human Rights Council Extends Hamas Apologist Francesca Albanese’s Mandate Despite Widespread Condemnation

The UN disgracefully extends Francesca Albanese’s mandate, empowering a Hamas apologist to continue spreading antisemitic hate through 2028.

In a disgraceful display of the UN’s continued moral bankruptcy, the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) has voted to extend the mandate of Francesca Albanese—a figure widely denounced for her antisemitism and defense of Hamas—through 2028. Albanese, who serves as Special Rapporteur on the so-called “occupied Palestinian territories,” has repeatedly used her platform to vilify Israel while offering apologetics for a terrorist group responsible for the worst massacre of Jews since the Holocaust.

Despite overwhelming evidence of bias, and clear associations with Hamas propaganda narratives, Albanese will remain in her role for another three years. This decision confirms what many have long argued: that the UNHRC is not a body devoted to human rights, but a platform hijacked by anti-Israel ideologues and terror sympathizers.

A Record of Hate and Hypocrisy

Since her appointment in 2022, Albanese has proven unfit for any impartial mandate. She has downplayed Hamas’ crimes, including the systematic rape, torture, and murder carried out during the October 7, 2023 massacre. She has drawn grotesque comparisons between Israel and Nazi Germany—an antisemitic trope that trivializes the Holocaust while demonizing the world’s only Jewish state.

Her remarks have not gone unnoticed. The United States Mission to the UN, joined by members of the EU Parliament and Jewish organizations worldwide, has condemned Albanese’s statements as “virulently antisemitic” and “in breach of the UN’s own conduct standards.” But instead of removing her, the UN doubled down—sending a chilling message about where it stands.

UNHRC: A Platform for Terror Enablers

The Council’s decision to ignore repeated calls for Albanese’s dismissal reflects a systemic rot within the institution. The same UNHRC that failed to condemn Hamas for its barbaric attack on Israeli civilians is now renewing the mandate of a woman who refuses to acknowledge Israel’s right to self-defense.

There has been no mention from Albanese regarding the more than 100 Israeli hostages still being held in Gaza under brutal conditions. No acknowledgment of the children dragged from their homes. No condemnation of the tunnels built under hospitals, the weapons stashed in schools, or the deliberate use of human shields. Instead, she continues to weaponize “human rights” language to shield terrorists and target their victims.

Why This Matters

Francesca Albanese’s renewed mandate is not just an insult to Israel—it’s a betrayal of the very concept of human rights. Her appointment legitimizes terrorism, emboldens Iran’s proxies, and further erodes the credibility of the international system. As long as figures like her speak for the UN, justice will remain out of reach for victims of terror, and the institutions meant to protect the innocent will continue to shield the guilty.

Israel, and all those who value moral clarity, must continue to expose this farce for what it is. The fight against terror is not just on the battlefield—it is also being waged in the halls of Geneva.
