Khamenei’s Advisor Dismisses U.S. Threats Over Nuclear Program, Proposes ‘Indirect Talks’ While Boasting of Iran’s Momentum

Khamenei advisor Ali Larijani mocks U.S. threats over Iran’s nuclear program, proposes indirect talks, and signals Tehran’s growing defiance.

Ali Larijani, a senior advisor to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, dismissed American warnings over Tehran’s accelerating nuclear program, stating that U.S. airstrikes would only “delay, not halt” Iran’s technological progress. Speaking to Iranian media, Larijani also floated the idea of “indirect talks” as a possible diplomatic path—but made it clear that Tehran has no intention of slowing down its nuclear ambitions.

Larijani’s remarks come amid deepening concern in Israel and among its allies about Iran’s enrichment of uranium beyond 90%, its continued defiance of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) inspections, and its use of proxies to wage war across the region.

“The Ring”: Who Really Pulls the Strings in Iran?

Larijani isn’t just a mouthpiece. He’s widely known in intelligence circles as the man with “the ring”—a reference to the symbolic authority bestowed by Khamenei to those in his inner circle. That ring signifies power, proximity, and the ability to speak on behalf of Iran’s Supreme Leader. When Larijani speaks, he is echoing the regime’s deepest strategic intentions.

So when he mocks U.S. deterrence and suggests indirect diplomacy, it should be seen for what it is: a classic Iranian maneuver—offering dialogue while accelerating toward a nuclear threshold behind the scenes.

“Iran doesn’t negotiate in good faith,” an Israeli security official told The Middle East Observer. “They talk about indirect channels while spinning centrifuges and plotting regional attacks.”

Buying Time for the Bomb?

Larijani’s dismissal of airstrikes as ineffective is not only arrogant—it’s telling. The regime knows that its nuclear infrastructure is increasingly dispersed, hardened, and protected by Russia-supplied air defense systems. But Israel’s precision strikes on Iran’s nuclear-linked facilities in recent months have proven that no site is beyond reach.

From the Isfahan research facility destroyed during Operation Days of Repentance, to targeted strikes on IRGC air defense sites, Israel has shown that it is not constrained by American hesitation. And it is not interested in “indirect talks” while the countdown to a nuclear Iran continues.

The Threat Is Not Just Nuclear—It’s Regional

Larijani’s remarks also ignore the wider danger Iran poses. This is the regime that armed Hamas for the October 7 massacre, continues to fund Hezbollah’s rocket campaign in northern Israel, and supplies ballistic missiles to the Houthis—some of which have been fired at Tel Aviv. A nuclear-capable Iran would not be a deterrent power—it would be a regional hegemon with apocalyptic intent.

“Iran’s goal isn’t coexistence. It’s domination,” said an Israeli defense analyst. “Larijani’s words are not diplomacy—they’re a warning of what’s to come.”
