Hamas has reportedly executed a number of suspected spies in Gaza, in what observers say is a desperate attempt to reassert control following a series of Israeli intelligence breakthroughs and targeted strikes against the terror group’s leadership.
According to a report by Asharq Al-Awsat, the executions were carried out by Hamas’ so-called “revolutionary courts”, which convicted the individuals of espionage in areas where top Hamas commanders were recently eliminated by Israeli precision strikes.
Panic Among Hamas Ranks
Sources cited by the outlet say the suspects were executed without delay after rapid trials in Hamas-run military tribunals. While exact numbers remain unconfirmed, the report indicates a growing wave of arrests, as Hamas intensifies efforts to uncover additional alleged collaborators.
“Investigations are ongoing with others,” a source familiar with the matter told Asharq Al-Awsat, suggesting the crackdown is far from over.
The killings reflect growing fear and paranoia inside Hamas, which has suffered repeated blows in recent weeks due to Israel’s intelligence superiority and deep infiltration into the terror group’s operational networks.
This is not the first time Hamas has used mass executions as a tool of internal control. During previous conflicts, the group has publicly executed alleged collaborators—often without credible evidence—in acts meant to instill fear among civilians and distract from military failures.
Analysts warn that such purges serve both to silence dissent and project strength to Hamas’ base, even as the group faces mounting military and intelligence defeats.
The IDF has not officially commented on the reported executions. However, the timing strongly suggests that Israeli intelligence penetrations are continuing to erode Hamas’ ability to command and operate freely within Gaza.
Israel’s success in locating and eliminating high-ranking Hamas operatives even during ceasefire periods has reinforced its message: no terrorist is beyond reach, and no ceasefire provides immunity.
