As tensions continue to mount in Gaza, the Hamas terrorist organization has proposed the release of five Israeli hostages in exchange for a ceasefire extension lasting until after the Passover holiday. The offer, made under mounting military pressure from the IDF, is being widely interpreted as a last-ditch attempt to slow Israel’s momentum as Hamas’ infrastructure crumbles.
This proposal comes as part of Hamas’ response to the IDF’s continued defensive campaign, which resumed on March 18 under Operation Might and Sword. Contrary to previous truces, this operation was launched after Hamas violated the ceasefire multiple times—firing rockets, stalling hostage releases, and exploiting humanitarian aid shipments to rearm. Recognizing Hamas’ strategy to regroup during these pauses, Israel resumed military operations with the clear goal of dismantling the terror group once and for all.
According to military sources, Hamas has been severely weakened. Key leaders have been eliminated, and the group is losing its grip on areas once considered strongholds. The latest proposal to release five hostages is not a gesture of goodwill but a reaction to overwhelming IDF pressure and internal collapse.
Israel, however, remains steadfast. Officials have reaffirmed that any extension of the ceasefire must comply with the Witkoff outline, which demands the release of at least ten living hostages. This framework, led by hostage negotiator David Witkoff, was created to prevent Hamas from exploiting humanitarian talks while continuing its campaign of terror.
Israeli security officials have made it clear: the era of one-sided concessions is over. Hamas’ proposal falls short of basic humanitarian expectations, especially given the group’s past abuses—hostages returned malnourished, traumatized, and in some cases, tortured. Many remain underground, subjected to horrific conditions, while Hamas drags out negotiations to gain time.
This latest maneuver is further proof that military pressure works. Every step forward in Operation Might and Sword exposes Hamas’ vulnerabilities and brings Israel closer to its goal: the full dismantling of Hamas, the safe return of all hostages, and the end of terror rule in Gaza.
The international community now faces a choice: support Israel’s moral clarity and insist on Hamas’ full compliance—or continue enabling a terrorist group that has weaponized civilians and hostage diplomacy.
One truth remains: Israel will not rest until all hostages are home, and Hamas no longer threatens the Jewish state.
