Israeli Police and the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) have arrested a 17-year-old Israeli Arab from Jisr az-Zarqa, who had pledged allegiance to ISIS and was in the advanced stages of planning a mass-casualty terrorist attack in central Israel.

According to a joint statement by the security agencies, the teen had actively engaged with ISIS propaganda, undergone online radicalization, and was working to acquire weapons and explosives for an attack targeting civilians. The suspect had expressed loyalty to the Islamic State terrorist organization and had drafted a detailed operational plan for his attack.

This arrest underscores the ongoing threat of radicalization among Israeli Arab youth, particularly in communities where extremist ideologies are quietly spreading. While most Israeli Arabs are law-abiding citizens, the influence of global jihadist movements like ISIS and al-Qaeda continues to pose a danger—especially when amplified online or encouraged by Iran-backed terror propaganda.

This case echoes previous warnings by Shin Bet that ISIS supporters within Israel, though relatively small in number, are determined to carry out “lone wolf” attacks aimed at maximizing civilian casualties.

Though ISIS operates independently from Iran’s axis of terror, Iranian disinformation campaigns and jihadist incitement across social media often serve as an ideological bridge for radicalized individuals. Hamas, Hezbollah, and even Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) frequently glorify violence, creating an atmosphere that encourages impressionable youth to turn to jihad.

This makes the threat not just about ISIS, but about the broader ideological war being waged against Israel and the West by a network of terror groups that prey on disaffected youth.

The successful preemptive arrest by Israeli authorities once again demonstrates the vital role of the Shin Bet and Israel’s counter-terror infrastructure. It also serves as a stark reminder: the threats Israel faces come not only from Gaza, Lebanon, and Syria—but from within.

The suspect is currently being held for further interrogation. Authorities have already gathered sufficient evidence to confirm his intent to commit mass murder. Legal proceedings are expected to follow swiftly.
