Hamas’ Latest Proposal Is a Smokescreen

Hamas masks terror with diplomacy, pushing a deceptive agenda to retain power, weapons, and its genocidal war against Israel.

Senior Hamas official Dr. Khalil Al-Hayya claimed that the terror organization had accepted a new Egyptian-Qatari proposal for Gaza and expressed hope that Israel would not “sabotage it.” But behind the diplomatic language lies a chilling reality: Hamas has not abandoned its genocidal ambitions, nor has it moderated its extremist ideology. This so-called “vision” is nothing more than a strategic ploy to rebrand a terrorist group as a legitimate political actor while holding onto its weapons, power, and ultimate goal of eliminating Israel.

Dr. Al-Hayya’s remarks outlined a “national vision” that calls for an end to Israeli “aggression,” unity among Gaza’s factions, and the establishment of a sovereign Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital—alongside the so-called “right of return,” a demographic strategy aimed at erasing the Jewish state. This isn’t a peace plan; it’s a repackaging of long-standing maximalist demands that have fueled decades of conflict and bloodshed.

Far from showing signs of demilitarization or compromise, Hamas continues to reject any arrangement that would lead to its disarmament or loss of control over Gaza. Al-Hayya insisted that “resistance weapons” are “non-negotiable,” directly tying their existence to future statehood. In other words, Hamas refuses to lay down arms—even after launching the most barbaric terror attack against Jews since the Holocaust on October 7, 2023, when its terrorists, joined by Gazan civilians, murdered over 1,163 Israelis, including children, women, and the elderly.

Hamas’ support for Egypt’s proposal to form a Gaza “governance committee” composed of “independent national figures” is equally deceptive. Hamas has already submitted its own candidates for this committee, revealing its intent to control the outcome from behind the scenes while feigning neutrality. This mirrors past tactics where terrorist groups rebranded themselves to maintain influence under different guises—often with Arab and Western backing.

Most alarming is Hamas’ open call for Arab and Islamic countries to “use their strength” to oppose Israeli self-defense and shape a future “without occupation”—code for the destruction of Israel. Al-Hayya also condemned the international community’s “silence” over Gaza’s suffering, failing to mention that this suffering is the direct result of Hamas’ war against Israel, its use of civilians as human shields, and its diversion of humanitarian aid to build terror tunnels and weapons stockpiles.

This is not a peace-seeking political entity. It is the same Hamas that filmed its own terrorists butchering civilians on October 7, the same Hamas that hides rockets beneath hospitals, and the same Hamas that drags out hostage negotiations to buy time while it tortures Israeli captives.

Any plan that legitimizes Hamas or allows it to retain its weapons is not a step toward peace—it is a license for continued terrorism. Israel has every right to reject these deceptive proposals and continue its campaign to dismantle Hamas, eliminate its leadership, and ensure that Gaza is never again used as a launching pad for jihad.

The world must wake up. Hamas isn’t interested in peace. It wants power, it wants weapons, and it wants to erase Israel. And Israel has every right—indeed, an obligation—to stop them.
