On March 23, 2025, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) came under fire—this time not from rockets or terrorist gunmen, but from a familiar weapon in the arsenal of Hamas and its allies: misinformation. Accusations surfaced that Israeli troops had attacked an ambulance in Gaza without justification. However, IDF Spokesman Brigadier General Efi Defrin, who recently assumed the role, laid out the facts, dismantling the false narrative and exposing how terrorist organizations continue to exploit humanitarian infrastructure to wage war.
What Really Happened?
1. Suspicious Movements Ignored Protocols
On the day in question, several uncoordinated vehicles approached IDF positions in a suspicious manner. These vehicles operated without headlights or emergency signals, violating all agreed-upon procedures for medical evacuations. Given the location—an active combat zone—and the ongoing war with Hamas, Israeli troops responded as trained: they opened fire on what appeared to be a potential car bomb or militant convoy.
Notably, vehicles that were properly coordinated and followed established protocols had passed safely earlier that day along the same route.
2. Terrorists Eliminated, Including October 7 Massacre Participant
Subsequent analysis confirmed that Mohammad Amin Ibrahim Shubaki, a known Hamas operative involved in the October 7 massacre, was among those killed. Alongside him, eight additional terrorists from Hamas and Islamic Jihad were neutralized in the strike.
This wasn’t an “ambulance attack”—it was a successful strike on a terror cell that used a civilian vehicle to mask its movements.
3. Proper Coordination Followed for Body Evacuation
After the engagement, the IDF coordinated with international organizations to facilitate the removal of the bodies. This shows that Israel continues to operate within the boundaries of international humanitarian law, even when facing enemies who systematically violate it.
Terrorists Exploiting Medical Vehicles: Not New, Not Surprising
This incident underscores a long-standing tactic used by Hamas and its affiliates: turning hospitals, ambulances, and aid convoys into weapons of war. Just as they’ve embedded terror tunnels beneath hospitals and stockpiled rockets inside schools, terrorist groups routinely use medical vehicles to transport fighters and weapons, knowing Israel’s ethical considerations often give them a tactical advantage.
The IDF has made clear: when terrorists operate in combat zones—regardless of the disguise—they will be targeted. Israel’s responsibility is to protect its civilians and soldiers, not allow terrorists to exploit humanitarian loopholes to conduct attacks with impunity.
This was not a random attack. It was a calculated, justified military response to a real and immediate threat. The attempt to spin it as a strike on innocent medics is yet another example of the propaganda war being waged against Israel—a war that aims to delegitimize the Jewish state’s right to self-defense while whitewashing the war crimes of Iran-backed terror organizations.
Israel will not apologize for defending its people. Nor should it have to.
